چکیده

Abstract Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a disorder associated with progressive degeneration of memory and cognitive function. Galantamine licenced treatment for AD but supplies the plant alkaloid that it produced from, galanthamine, are limited. This three-year system study tested potential to combine Narcissus -derived galanthamine production grassland-based ruminant production. Replicate plots permanent pasture were prepared without bulbs pseudonarcissus sown as lines into sward. Two different fertiliser regimes imposed. The above-ground green biomass N. was harvested in early spring yield determined. In second harvest year split-plot design implemented cut annually biennially. All subsequently grazed by ewes lambs animal performance recorded. Incorporation had no detrimental effects on health or sheep which pasture. There consistency rates yields. difference overall if biennially (1.64 vs. 1.75 kg galanthamine/ha annual combined vs biennial cuts respectively; s.e.d = 0.117 galanthamine/ha; ns). verified feasibility dual cropping approach producing plant-derived galanthamine.

New Gold in Them Thar Hills: Testing a Novel Supply Route for Plant-Derived Galanthamine

Many secondary plant compounds are synthesized in response to stressed growing conditions. We tested the feasibility of exploiting this feature in a novel strategy for the commercial production of the plant alkaloid galanthamine. Experimental lines of Narcissus pseudonarcissus were established under marginal upland permanent pasture at four different sites. Over 80% of bulbs successfully establ...

“integrating Cleaner Production into Sustainability

Bacterial Cellulose biosynthesis is one of the most important applied biochemical processes in biology. In order to explain the detailed molecular events of bacterial cellulose biosynthesis, we discuss in this work, the different steps required for bacterial cellulose formation and crystallization from sugar cane and honey. The potential of organisms to produce biocellulose fibers was analyzed....

Integrating Theories into Inference Systems

The axiomatization of arithmetical properties in theorem proving creates many straightforward inference steps. In analyzing mathematical proofs with the CERES (Cut-Elimination by Resolution) system, it is convenient to hide these inferences. The central topic of the thesis is the extension of the CERES method to allow reasoning modulo equational theories. For this, the inference systems of Sequ...

Mixed Grazing Systems Benefit both Upland Biodiversity and Livestock Production

BACKGROUND With world food demand expected to double by 2050, identifying farming systems that benefit both agricultural production and biodiversity is a fundamentally important challenge for the 21(st) century, but this has to be achieved in a sustainable way. Livestock grazing management directly influences both economic outputs and biodiversity on upland farms while contributing to potential...
